In 2023, Michelin Guide officially debuted in Vietnam, highlighting worth-trying restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and marking a significant milestone in recognizing Vietnamese cuisine globally.

This year, the prestigious guide has expanded its list. Let’s explore the Michelin Guide Vietnam 2024 list and see what locals have to say about these selected eateries.

Vietnam 1 Michelin Star Restaurants

On June 27, the awards ceremony revealed the lineup of 7 restaurants that received the “1 star” distinction. This indicates that these restaurants offer good quality food and are worth trying. The list comprises 4 Vietnam 2023 establishments and 3 new additions:

Vietnam Bib Gourmand 2024

The Bib Gourmand Award is a designation given by the Michelin Guide to restaurants offering high-quality food at a reasonable price and named after Bibendum, the Michelin Man mascot. Unlike Michelin stars, which typically denote fine dining establishments, Bib Gourmand restaurants are often more casual and accessible, highlighting local cuisine and comfort food.

Da Nang debuts an appearance on the list and becomes the latest destination to be featured in the Michelin Guide Vietnam 2024 selection. Michelin Guide Da Nang Bib Gourmand Selection was unveiled with 16 restaurants.

The announcement of the Michelin Guide Vietnam Bib Gourmand 2024 list for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang has garnered a variety of responses from the Vietnamese community. Many Vietnamese agree that the restaurants named in the list are all worth trying for tourists and reflect the spirit of Vietnamese cuisine.

Some individuals disagree with the presence of establishments such as Bun Cha Hang Than and Bun Cha Obama (Bun Cha Huong Lien). They believe these restaurants no longer meet the standards expected by locals and require quality improvements.

Many people concur with the excellence of Hu Tiu Hong Phat, Pho Minh, El Gaucho, Cha Ca Anh Vu, An’s Saigon, Com Tam 3 Ghien, Com Tho Chuyen Ky, Nha Tu, etc.

There is some local regret that many beloved eateries have not made it onto the list. Another perspective is that the Ho Chi Minh City list has too many Pho establishments.

Regarding the restaurants on the Bib Gourmand list, locals hope that appearing on the Michelin list doesn’t lead these eateries to neglect their service quality and food standards due to increased customer traffic.


The Michelin Guide Vietnam is an extensive compilation, featuring 7 Michelin-starred restaurants, 58 Bib Gourmand establishments, and 99 restaurants in the Michelin Selected category. In total, there are 164 entries.

This marks the second year Michelin has presented awards and unveiled a list of recommended dining spots in Vietnam. In a country where eateries of all sizes thrive everywhere like Vietnam, Michelin can update and offer more appropriate recommendations for foreign tourists visiting Vietnam, as well as identify quintessential restaurants in Vietnam deserving of Michelin Stars.
