When will you be able to travel to Vietnam?

Starting from 15 March 2022, international visitors can visit and travel freely in Vietnam as the Government agreed to allow resuming inbound travel. Among very few countries that reignite inbound travel in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is a worth-visiting destination. It’s not only because of its stunning landscapes and ravishing white sand beaches but also because of friendly Vietnamese, rich and unique culture, et cetera. That’s the reason why Vietnam received over 18 mil visitors in 2019 which ranked fourth in ten ASEAN countries.

Is it safe to travel to Vietnam from mid-March 2022?

The success of vaccination campaigns in Vietnam, that makes vaccination surge, benefits creating community immunity and decreases fatality rate. This is the firm foundation to reopen the inbound tourism sector.

At the moment, although the number of Covid-19 cases in Vietnam has not stopped increasing yet, thanks to the high vaccination rate, all the travel restrictions in Vietnam have been lifted and people inside the country can travel freely. In fact, during nine days of the TET festival which is the largest one in a year, 35 provinces received 6.2 million domestic travelers. That signal has shown a potential rebound of the domestic sector and also indicates that Vietnam is ready to welcome foreign travelers again.

How to travel to Vietnam?

The spirit of tourism activities under the new normal is “Adapting safely, flexibly and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic effectively”.

1. Visa update

In general, the Vietnamese Government allows recovering the policies on entry visas for foreigners as before the pandemic outbreak.

Visa Exemption

In accordance with Resolution No. 32/NQ-CP issued on 15th March 2022, citizens who come from this list of countries and territories are allowed to stay in Vietnam up to 15 days without a visa regardless of passport type or entry purpose:

  • Federal Republic of Germany;
  • Republic of Italy;
  • Kingdom of Spain;
  • United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland;
  • Russian Federation;
  • Japan;
  • Republic of Korea;
  • Kingdom of Denmark;
  • Kingdom of Norway;
  • Republic of Finland;
  • Kingdom of Sweden;
  • Republic of Belarus;
  • French Republic.

E-Visa

E-visas are single-entry 30-day tourist visas that will be offered for citizens of 80 countries including the United States and most European nations.

Compulsory requirements for One Month Single Tourist Visa: 

  1. Before departure flight: A certificate of Negative Covid-19 Test Result (test taken within 24 hours prior to Vietnam arrival in case of rapid test, or 72 hours in case of RT-PCR test)
  2. Program in Vietnam (roundtrip ticket booking, hotel booking, guide contact or contact person in Vietnam, etc.)
  3. A scan of health insurance for 10,000USD to cover Covid Treatment

Optional requirement:

A scan of the full-vaccination certificate with the 2nd dose administered within 6 months, or a certificate of being recovered from Covid within 6 months

2. Before departure flight

  • A certificate of Negative Covid-19 Test Result (test taken within 24 hours prior to Vietnam arrival in case of rapid test, or 72 hours in case of RT-PCR test)
  • Your Passport (at least 06 months validity)
  • Vietnam visa proof

3. On arrival at airport process

  • If you have signs and symptoms of COVID-19 at the border gate (fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches – fatigue – chills, the new loss of taste or smell, etc.), notify the Health Authority at the border gate immediately so that medical measures can be taken as prescribed.

4. During your vacation

  • Quarantine-free: Good news for foreign visitors is that they can travel in Vietnam with no quarantine if they get a negative Covid-19 test result before the departure flight.
  • Travelers only need to continue self-monitoring their health for 10 days from the date of entry; if they have signs and symptoms of SARS-COV-2 (a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, etc.), they must immediately notify the nearest medical facility for timely guidance and management.
  • Take prevention measures, wear medical face masks regularly, disinfect hands with hand sanitizer.

5. Leaving Vietnam

  • Ensure conditions on exit and entry according to Vietnam’s immigration laws
  • Visitors should check to adhere to the entry regulations of their airlines, next destinations or original destination.
