Ta Prohm Siem Reap, Cambodia

In November 2021, Cambodia opened its doors to tourists fully vaccinated against COVID-19 after most of its people had been vaccinated.

Travelers who present a valid international certificate for full vaccination against COVID-19, with the use of an approved vaccine, are exempt from quarantine requirements. The test requirement was lifted on March 17, 2022.

Non-vaccinated travelers will be administered a PCR test on arrival and must quarantine for 7 days at their accommodation. A PCR test will be administered at the end of this period and those testing negative will be released from quarantine. Arrivals without a pre-booked hotel must have USD 2000 per person in cash and must quarantine at a government-approved hotel.

All nationals from all over the world are required to present a visa upon arrival in Cambodia, except for those with nationalities (Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam). Visitors to Cambodia can apply for an e-Visa for US$37, which allows a single entry and can stay up to 30 days for tourism purposes except for some countries (Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan)

All passengers are subject to health screening on arrivals, such as temperature checks and visual assessment. Further health testing may be required for those displaying symptoms of COVID-19.

Bangkok-Siem Reap flights will resume from March 3, 2022

The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism has stated that from March 3, 2022, a Thai airline would restart flights from Bangkok to Siem Reap and from Siem Reap to Bangkok. Thai Smile Airlines will fly two direct flights every week, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

According to the Ministry of Health, with more than 90 percent of Cambodia’s total population of 16 million having been vaccinated against COVID-19 as of February 25, 2022, and the implementation of safety measures, Cambodia is a safe tourist destination and is open to international tourists without the need for quarantine in the case of passengers with negative COVID-19 tests upon arrival in Cambodia.

As the number of direct flights between Cambodia and China increases, tourism experts expect Chinese tourists to return

Chinese visitors are likely to return to Cambodia, according to tourism experts, since direct flights between China and Cambodia are projected to grow from one to two per week shortly. According to Ho Vandy, an adviser to the Cambodian Tourism Association, if the Chinese Embassy promotes direct flights between China and Cambodia in the near future, it will attract more visitors.

Currently, travel between China and Cambodia is facing difficulties due to several reasons such as:

  • The lack of direct flights between the two countries.
  • The price of airfares is still high ($ 3,000 to $ 4,000).

Therefore, the increase in the number of direct flights and the reduction of airfares will make Chinese people come to visit Cambodia. Moreover, it will also boost investment activities that will help the Cambodian economy.

Cambodia today recorded its 14th consecutive day – and the 3rd highest ever Omicron total – of triple-digit daily new Omicron cases as surging case numbers continue to cause widespread worry. Currently, Cambodia has recorded 4760 cases that are positive with the Omicron variant – 4064 community cases and 696 imported cases. It brings the total cases of Covid-19 in Cambodia to 125,201.

The Ministry of Health permits foreign nationals who enter Cambodia and are found to be positive to self-isolate at hotels, a residence prepared by their embassy, or other settings, with no enforced hospitalization.

The Ministry of Health allows foreign visitors who enter Cambodia and are tested to be positive with Covid-19 to self-isolate in hotels, embassy-provided residences, or other locations, with no compulsory hospitalization.

“All patients are now free to choose a suitable place to quarantine, and should only seek treatment at state hospitals if they cannot find an appropriate location.” the representative said.

Starting from January 14, 2022, Cambodia began to inoculate the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to priority groups in Phnom Penh due to the spread of the Omicron variant within the community.

Fearing widespread transmission of the novel Covid-19 variant Omicron, Cambodian border provincial officials are considering stricter restrictions for crossing migrant laborers, such as enforced quarantine and PCR testing.

Because of the high vaccination rate, the Ministry of Health spokesman told Khmer Times on 30/12/2021 that the Kingdom has nearly reached the herd immunity goal. So, despite detecting almost 50 cases of the Omicron variant so far, the government will not impose a lockdown or work from home precaution like in neighboring Thailand.
