In November 2021, Cambodia opened its doors to tourists fully vaccinated against COVID-19 after most of its people had been vaccinated.

Travelers who present a valid international certificate for full vaccination against COVID-19, with the use of an approved vaccine, are exempt from quarantine requirements. The test requirement was lifted on March 17, 2022.

Non-vaccinated travelers will be administered a PCR test on arrival and must quarantine for 7 days at their accommodation. A PCR test will be administered at the end of this period and those testing negative will be released from quarantine. Arrivals without a pre-booked hotel must have USD 2000 per person in cash and must quarantine at a government-approved hotel.

All nationals from all over the world are required to present a visa upon arrival in Cambodia, except for those with nationalities (Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam). Visitors to Cambodia can apply for an e-Visa for US$37, which allows a single entry and can stay up to 30 days for tourism purposes except for some countries (Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan)

All passengers are subject to health screening on arrivals, such as temperature checks and visual assessment. Further health testing may be required for those displaying symptoms of COVID-19.

As the number of direct flights between Cambodia and China increases, tourism experts expect Chinese tourists to return

Chinese visitors are likely to return to Cambodia, according to tourism experts, since direct flights between China and Cambodia are projected to grow from one to two per week shortly. According to Ho Vandy, an adviser to the Cambodian Tourism Association, if the Chinese Embassy promotes direct flights between China and Cambodia in the near future, it will attract more visitors.

Currently, travel between China and Cambodia is facing difficulties due to several reasons such as:

  • The lack of direct flights between the two countries.
  • The price of airfares is still high ($ 3,000 to $ 4,000).

Therefore, the increase in the number of direct flights and the reduction of airfares will make Chinese people come to visit Cambodia. Moreover, it will also boost investment activities that will help the Cambodian economy.
