Global interest in Vietnam is rising
The Vietnam National Tourism Administration’s Tourism Information Center has noted that Vietnam is becoming a highly attractive destination on the world’s tourism map, thanks to its visa policies, rich tourism resources, and prominent reputation.

Data from Google Destination Insights shows a marked increase in international searches related to tourism in Vietnam. The countries with the most searches are the US, Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the UK, Canada, Germany, and Malaysia.
The most sought-after destinations by international tourists include Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Da Lat, Phan Thiet, Hue, and Vung Tau. The Vietnam National Tourism Administration views this data as a positive signal for the tourism industry as it enters 2025, following a period of recovery and growth.
Vietnam tourism recovers fastest in ASEAN
In January 2025, Vietnam welcomed nearly 2.1 million international visitors, an increase of 36.9% compared to January 2024. This marks a new record, surpassing the previous high of nearly 2 million international visitors in January 2020. Compared to January 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of visitors in January 2025 was 37.8% higher.

According to the latest data from the ASEAN Secretariat, in 2024, Vietnam’s tourism industry recorded the best recovery in the ASEAN region. In 2024, Vietnam welcomed 17.6 million international visitors, reaching 98% of the 2019 level, before the Covid-19 pandemic, nearly a full recovery.
Meanwhile, other major tourism countries in the region are also recovering, but at a slightly slower pace. Specifically, Thailand recovered at 88%, Singapore and Indonesia both at 86%, the Philippines at 72%, and Malaysia at 94%.
The figure of 17.6 million international visitors to Vietnam also surpassed Singapore (16.5 million), placing Vietnam third after Thailand (35 million) and Malaysia (projected 24.5 million).
