As the brightest building of Ho Chi Minh City, the Municipal Theater is an exciting place not to be missed when visiting the vibrant southern city. Built in 1897 as the Opera de Saigon, also called the Saigon Opera House, the building is strongly influenced by French colonial architecture in Vietnam. With 800 seats, nowadays, the Saigon Opera House becomes a theater for a variety of traditional and classical performances such as concerts, plays, ballet, opera and Vietnamese traditional dance. Located at the start of Le Loi Avenue, the central position of this theater makes it easier to be found. The site is a highlight in a short city tour, as it’s in a close vicinity of Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral and Reunification Palace.
