According to data from the General Statistics Office on October 6th, Vietnam welcomed over 12.7 million international visitors in the first nine months of 2024, exceeding the total of 12.6 million visitors for the whole of 2023. Vietnam’s target for this year is to attract between 17 and 18 million visitors.
The largest source markets for tourists to Vietnam are South Korea (3.3 million visitors) and China (2.7 million visitors), accounting for nearly 48% of the total international arrivals in the first three quarters.
Other top 10 markets bringing a significant number of visitors to Vietnam include Taiwan, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, India, Cambodia, and Thailand.

European markets have also experienced growth ranging from 20% to 80% compared to 2023, a result partially attributed to Vietnam’s visa exemption policy, which allows for a temporary stay of up to 45 days.
Two years after the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of international visitors to Vietnam has fully recovered, reaching pre-pandemic levels or even higher in many markets around the world.
Vietnam’s current visa policies are far more open compared to previous phases, with the introduction of e-visas and extended visa-free stays.
In the first six months of 2024, the cities attracting the most tourists were Hanoi, Dien Bien, Thanh Hoa, Lao Cai, Khanh Hoa, and Ho Chi Minh City.
