Patuxai Victory Monument which means “Victory Gate” is a must-see destination in Vientiane. It was built from 1962 to 1968 to memorize people who were sacrified to protect Laos from French domination. “Victory Gate”, designed by a Laos architecture, was inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. But in general, the monument still contains Laos traditional architecture because the upper part was decorated in typical Laos style with depictions of the Hindu Gods Brahma, Vishnu and the three headed elephant Erawan. Patuxai is located on Lan Xang – the largest avenue in Vientiane and many important organs of Vientiane are loceted here such as: Pha That Luong – the national symbol of Buddhism, Municipal House, Morning market – the biggest one in Vientiane and Viet Nam Embassy. If you go to the “Great Victory”, you should never miss the 7th floor in which you can have a total view of Vientiane Capital City and nature beauty of Mekong River.
