Phu Son Prison

Phu Son Prison is 14 km away from the airport, was built by French colonists in 1908 and completed in 1916. Through many different names, after the treaty of Paris in 1973, this prison was called “Phú Sơn”.

This prison have 13.228m2 area includes 13 detention places and 14 cell. In addition, there were some more works like: medical room, cafeteria, kitchen, club, barber shop, office for guard and garden…

Here, several key people of the Party and Government were imprisoned as: Nguyen Van Cu, Le Duan, Pham Van Dong, Hoang Quoc Viet, Le Thanh Nghi, Ha Huy Giap…

It is also famous for “Tiger Cages” – Chuồng Cọp. Prisoners were shackled chained and tortured by the guards from the top. The guards used the bamboo stick or poured chemicals and stimulant on prisoner. This form of torture is extremely and known as a crime against humanity.
